Annotated Transcript
This page breaks down all of the courses that I have taken during the time that I was enrolled in Michigan State University's Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) Program. The courses are in chronological order from what I took first in the program to my final courses. Each description includes what topics I learned in the course and what technological pieces that I learned or utilized in my projects!

Instructor: Patricia Edwards and Lisa Domke***This course was taken during my year-long student teaching***
In this course we learned about reading assessments, when to administer them, analyze data, and learn what the next steps were from there. We also learned about valuing different perspectives and creating a classroom library where all students feel welcomed and cherished with books that represent themselves. We also created small group reading lessons and whole group reading lessons where the lessons were student-centered and engaging.

Instructor: Maribel Santiago and Allie Whitford***This course was taken during my year-long student teaching***
Social studies has always been a struggle of mine since I was in elementary school. This course helped me grow comfortable with the core subject and helped me develop culturally rich and engaging hands-on lessons for my students. We examined many historic events from different perspectives during our classes and had a conversation on how we can bring these conversations to our classroom community in a respectful and effective way.

Instructor: Alicia Alonzo and Christie Thomas***This course was taken during my year-long student teaching***
I was skeptical about teaching science to young students because I was unsure of how to make most of the lessons engaging and student centered for my students. In this course we learned about inquiry based science lessons, research for different aged students, educational policy, and more. We also learned how to create a science unit by working backwards in the planning process. We started with unpacking science standards, looking for big ideas, and finally creating each individual lesson with the correct progression and sequencing for the project.

Instructor: Kyle ShackThis is one of my first courses that I took for the MAET program. I learned about the Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, different learning theories, and networking. While I was learning about these different topics, we had to go outside of our comfort zone and use new innovative technologies to create a piece that showcased our learning. Some of these technologies or resources include: Piktochart, Adobe Spark, Makey Makey, and several others. At the end of the course we created a lesson plan that showcased everything that we learned in the accelerated six week course.

Instructor: Charles LoganDuring CEP 812, I learned a lot about the different categories of problems (well structured, ill-structured, and wicked). I then explored questioning as a whole by reading A More Beautiful Question by Warren Berger. I took the information that I learned and developed my own beautiful question of: How do you incorporate technology into personalized learning? I learned how to do a question quick-fire, develop a survey, and create possible solutions to my wicked problem. I learned about multimodality and was able to apply those principles learned to my Wicked Problem final project.

Instructor: Bill MarslandThis was my favorite course during my time in the MAET program. Creating and Coding/Programming has become an increasing hot topic for students especially with video games being popular. This is why this course became very important to me and how I can build relationships with my students through coding! I learned about creativity as a whole, implementing an environment for creativity to occur, how to assess creativity, and many other facets to creativity. I also made my own learning artifacts through online resources where coding was an integral part of the activity. I learned to use programs like: SonicPi, Trinket, Microbit, Scratch, and several others.

Instructors: Michael Lachney and Matthew Schell Research is a topic or activity that I struggle with the most. Within research, there are many technical terms and statistics, which I am not particularly fond of. But during this course, I dove into the research realm and was able to learn a lot and become more comfortable with it. I learned about descriptive and inferential statistics, survey creation, participant observations, interviews, and denotations and connotations. I took this course while were in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, therefore I created many of my research projects around the pandemic with topics such as teacher support and virtual learning. This course came at a perfect time as I learned how to navigate the waters of virtual learning and I could use the new information from this course to help!

Instructors: Dr. Stephanie Jennings and Kyle ShackThis course was entirely about learning in different ways and different contexts. We developed our own theory of learning at the beginning of the course and as the semester progressed we added new learning theories to our paper and/or changed/reevaluated what we were thinking before. Throughout the course we read about learning in general, habits, schema theory, observational learning, sociocultural theory of development, learning styles, identity/culture in learning, the role of assessments in learning, and learning in different contexts (in/out of school). As a teacher and learner myself, I learned that I strongly associate learning with the constructionist, cognitivist, social learning, and behaviorist learning theories.

Instructors: Dr. Stephanie Jennings and Mary WeaverMany of the topics addressed in this course, I already generally learned about before in the above courses. We revisited ideas including: learning theories, Professional Learning Networks (PLN's), and TPACK. I also learned new concepts like 21st Century Learning and different mindsets when teaching with technology. With each of these topics we created an artifact showcasing what we learned including videos and lesson plans. Also during this course, we learned about learning something new through a personal learning network, where you learn from affinity spaces, YouTube, social media, and the internet in general. I learned how to knit a scarf just by using online resources. This course challenged myself as a learner and helped me remember that I like to try new things personally and professionally!

Instructors: Dr. Matthew Koehler and Aric GauntThis is the final course for the MAET program and Michigan State University. We reflect on our time and work in the program and how we have grown as an individual and in our careers. We created our final portfolio where we showcase our work to the public. |
